The summer gathering is, without question, one of SWET’s most popular events. We are happy to announce this year’s speaker, Glen S. Fukushima, Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and Vice President of AT&T Japan Ltd. Many of you knew Glen Fukushima in his capacity as Deputy Assistant United States Trade Representative for Japan and China, prior to joining AT&T. His wide experience in academia, business, and government has provided him with countless occasions to ponder the issues of cross-cultural communication, and he will speak to us on “Challenges in Communicating between Americans and Japanese.”
The lecture, followed by a question-and-answer session, will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Main Library of Sophia University, Room 812, on the Yotsuya campus. After the lecture, we will move to a nearby beer restaurant called J*s (no, that is not a typo) at Atr?, the Yotsuya station building, for beer and snacks. The food is standard beer hall fare, but there will be plenty to eat and drink.
You are welcome to attend either or both parts of the event. Come to mark the end of a long, hot summer, see the faces of the people you would otherwise converse with only in cyberspace, and renew the unique camaraderie of SWET.
Reservations are required for the party only; deadline for reservations: August 23. Please reserve a place by faxing 0423-20-5278 or writing to 1-12-30 Minami-cho, Kokubunji 185-0021.
