June 26 - Recent Trends in Contemporary Japanese Literature
Speaker: Yonaha Keiko, Professor of Literature, Toyo Eiwa University
Please note that the lecture will be in Japanese without interpretation into English.
Specialist in contemporary Japanese literature, particularly women writers and writers from Okinawa, Yonaha will give us a critical overview of prominent young writers today, including the recent Akutagawa Prize winners. She will speak about so-called jun-bungaku novelists as well as those working in lighter genres, such as mysteries. She will discuss the recent trends in Japanese literature these authors represent and help us to see which writers might speak to readers in other languages.
