Speaker: Kevin Short (naturalist, author of Nature in Tokyo)
SWET invites you to enjoy the gracious hospitality of International House and its landscape garden evoking the history of an estate going back four centuries, to eat, drink, and make merry with old friends, fellow spirits, new acquaintances, potential clients, and supportive collaborators. Take a respite from your toils, put those deadlines aside, and join us for a midsummer evening.
Kevin Short, cultural anthropologist and professor at Tokyo University of Information Science, will give a brief talk about understanding plants and animals across cultures and answer burning questions such as how to tell raccoon dogs (tanuki) from badgers and rhinoceros from stag beetles.
The I-House garden is open for strolling and there is plenty of space for SWET-member guests and second-generation SWETers.
Reservations required. Send reservations as early as possible before July 20 to our events coordinator by e-mail or by fax at 03-3430-1740.
