June 25 - Editing in Japan: A Workshop
Panel of Editors: Phil Ouellet, Lynne Riggs, Ginny Tapley
What qualifies one to work as an editor? What should one do before starting to edit? How does editing differ from “checking,” proofreading, rewriting, copywriting, and so on? What are the various types (levels) of editing? What editing/writing authorities can one turn to? What else should one know to be a good editor? How much should one charge?
The workshop will include a general discussion of the questions above, as well as hands-on editing and discussion of short texts (200 words or less) submitted by attendees.
If you would like to submit a text to be edited and/or a problem to be discussed, please write to the organizers. (Note, however, that due to the limited time of the workshop perhaps not all pieces submitted will be considered during the workshop.) Persons who sign up will receive more details prior to the workshop.
