Modern software and the Internet have helped to streamline the processes involved in the editing workflow: editing manuscript files, checking consistency in manuscripts, communicating and collaborating with contributors, and proofreading manuscripts and galleys.
The latest versions of two common tools used in the production of written material—Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Professional—provide functions that can make editors’ lives significantly easier. This workshop, concentrating on text editing for print production, explains these functions, and how to use them as part of a collaborative workflow, for performing key parts of the editorial process. Participants are welcome to ask questions related to their particular area of editing, and to learn more about the arcane mysteries of these often under-utilized programs.
