November 11 - SWET Café and Mini Book Fair
SWET Café and Mini Book Fair
Date: November 11, 2006 (Sat.)
Time: 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Place: Sophia University campus, No. 7 building,
12th floor, No. 4 Conference room
SWET Tokyo wraps up its events calendar for the year with an afternoon for book exchanging and unstructured networking.
For more information, read on or contact SWET Events.
Give yourself an afternoon off to hobnob with fellow wordsmiths and meet colleagues and SWET friends. Invite potential members to come along and get a taste of a SWET event and consider signing up.
The afternoon features a “Mini Book Fair,” previously called “Quickie Book Exchange.” See below for details on how it will work. We lack the facilities to hold a full-fledged Book Fair so far this year, so this is your chance to recycle some of the titles on your shelves. Bring all the books you can carry, but plan to take home what is left over (we don’t have storage space for unsold books). Outgoing takkyubin pick-up service available.
Take this opportunity to buy your SWETshirts (all sizes available) and SWETbags (white and black) for the Christmas season.
Steering Committee members on hand will be discussing SWET events and activities for the coming year and looking for new members to help us keep the SWET beat going in 2007. Please give us your ideas, suggestions, and feedback.
For more information, contact SWET Events.
Guidelines for the Mini Book Fair
The November 11, 2006 Mini Book Fair (previously called “Book Exchange”) will be held according to the following guidelines:
Bring all the books you can carry
Book contributors will receive credit good on the day of the Mini Book Fair for what they bring to the venue at the following rates:
- 200 yen per mass paperback
- 300 yen per trade paperback
- 400 yen per hardcover (small hardcover books such as children’s books could be a fraction of this, say 100 yen for a very small one, 200 yen for a small one, etc.)
- 100 yen per CD or cassette
- 200 yen per video
- 400 yen per DVD
Take home as much as you can carry (or takkyubin)
You can take away as much as you can carry. If you come without books, please pay cash at the above rates. You can take home books and other items of a total value equal to the value of what you brought in, without spending cash. But if you find more items you want than you have credit for, please pay the difference in cash at the rates above.
Outgoing takkyubin pick-up service available nearby in case you find lots of good reading, listening, and viewing.
If you bring books, get credit, but do not find enough items to use up this credit, you may either take your leftover books back with you or you are welcome to donate them to SWET.
Items not sold by the end of the Mini Book Fair may be taken home by their original owners or donated to SWET, which will either store them for a future book fair or sell them to a secondhand bookstore.
The proceeds of the Mini Book Fair and sale of leftovers will be donated to SWET.
