The old building features an ancient, manually operated elevator, lots of wood paneling, high ceilings, old-fashioned decor, and a friendly staff.

SWET Kansai will again forget the year with good company, good conversation and good food, but, this year, also in stylish surroundings. The location of this year’s SWET Kansai bonenkai is the Chinese restaurant, Tohkasaikan, that now occupies the Wm. Vories art-deco building on the Kamo River, Kyoto. Built in 1926, it is an aesthetic delight with wood paneling, high ceilings and old-fashioned decor, and features an ancient, manually-operated elevator—probably the last working elevator man in a real cage elevator in Japan. (Visit the links below to view photos of this historic building.) SWET member and non-members alike are welcome to join the party.
