SWET Kansai is sponsoring an editing workshop to be held in Kyoto on January 17, 2010. This will be a hands-on workshop. Each participant should bring at least two copies of an edited work (which can include a translation) to edit further for clarity and conciseness.

Specific elements of editing will be covered, such as passive and active voice, negative and positive phrasing, and writing for an audience. Partner and group work will give each participant the opportunity to see different angles and gain editing insights by teaming up with peers.

The workshop will be led by American-educated James Michel, recently relocated to Japan. For the past three years James has taught writing and editing in Estonia at Tallinn University. Since moving to Japan he has worked on a number of nonfiction and fiction projects while he continues to teach at Tallinn University via online distance learning.
