Do you use The Japan Style Sheet, SWET’s distinctive guide to matters of style for Japanese in English texts? Have you had questions it does not answer? Have you needed or developed editorial strategies that move beyond its recommendations? The April 15th SWET Tokyo meeting is an opportunity to bring together updates, suggest further information to be provided, and discuss how such supplementary material could be published online or in other form.

SWET’s Japan Style Sheet was first conceived in 1983, soon after SWET was founded. A group effort, with pages typed by volunteers, it was published by SWET through three printings. It came under review in 1994. An editorial committee solicited suggestions from SWET members, and thorough revisions in consultation with publisher Stone Bridge Press concluded with publication of the current edition in 1998. Lauded as the “Japanese Chicago Manual,” it has become well established and continues to sell steadily, according to Peter Goodman, former SWET member and owner of Stone Bridge Press.
Anyone with suggestions for revisions, requests for correction, or recommendations for supplementation is encouraged to contact SWET and, if possible, to attend the meeting. If you cannot attend, please send us your thoughts via email to SWET Events.
The Mini Book Fair will be open throughout the evening.
