The Future of Print Culture

For many years, Dai-Nippon Printing has been sponsoring an ambitious “The Book and the Computer” forum in which writers, scholars, and journalists can discuss how the Internet and other digital media are transforming print culture. One of their projects is an English-language online journal at www.honco.net, which has also yielded a number of hardcopy dialogues and compilations. These are produced by bicultural, bilingual staff in both Tokyo and California working closely together, and the results have been impressive.

Alan Gleason has been a central player in this effort for many years, and he will talk with SWET on June 27 about the project—past, present, and future. How was it set up? How has it evolved? What difficulties do the bilingual people have dealing with their handlers? What is the outlook? What problems does it share with other like-minded publications? And how can these problems be resolved.

Join us then for a stimulating discussion about the future of publishing.
