Poetry Reading in Kyoto

SWET Kansai will host a poetry reading by Cid Corman, renowned American poet, essayist, and translator, on November 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at CC’s, a cafe in north-central Kyoto. Among his several volumes of poetry, Nothing Doing is a recent selection (New Directions, 2000). His translations of Basho, Issa, and Shiki include Back Roads to Far Towns, a version of Oku no Hosomichi unmatched for its lyrical intensity. As the founding editor of the literary journal Origin, he created a forum and audience for the work of Robert Creeley, Charles Olson, Denise Levertov, and Gary Snyder.

A Q&A-style discussion will follow the reading. The cafe is located on Marutamachi-dori, a few blocks west of Senbon-dori, about ten minutes from JR Sanyo’s Nijo or Enmachi stations. See the map for details. (0120-4790-18/075-801-4790).
